This has been the year of rainy weekends, but that didn’t stop Rick and Derek from adventuring through downtown Providence on the hunt for beautiful architecture and perfect fall foliage! They planned a cozy Hotel Providence fall wedding in October. And while there was definitely rain, it did break long enough for us to take some beautiful photos around the city, by the hotel patio, and up on the hotel’s rooftop!
Rick and Derek got engaged while living in France, but they are currently midwesterners. So they wanted to include details from both their time in France and their home state of Minnesota! Note the cheap French wines (and the not so cheap), the Paul Bunyan socks and the tree trunk sections (from the tree in their yard at home) that their centerpieces featured! The pops of burnt orange were perfect for autumn in New England. Especially their stylist boutonnieres created by Studio 539 Flowers. Trees were also a theme that continues onto their stunning cake by Sin Desserts. And their cake topper even showcased their pup, missing tail and all! DJ Jess and their emcee Starr, from Turning Music Into Memories, always run a great party and a packed dance floor! Wait until you see the light up shoes on this wedding party on the dance floor! I hope you enjoy a few of my favorites from Derek and Rick’s Hotel Providence fall wedding!
These grooms wore custom suits, complete with custom embroidery inside, by Heimie’s Haberdashery!
Every wedding should have a beer boy!
During this ceremony the church across the street was also having a ceremony. And when the church ceremony ended, the church rang it’s bells. Loudly. And for a while.
I mean a really long time.
So long that a guest brought up a beer for the guys.
Finally, back to our regularly scheduled vows.
You may kiss your husband!
After the ceremony we snuck up to the rooftop for a few more portraits overlooking the city!
Rick’s mom gave him his father’s wedding band. Rick carried it with him all day. So his dad could be with them for their wedding. I’m not crying, you’re crying.
It’s party time!
And now for the strangest tradition I have seen yet…MaryLou’s shoe. Apparently several years ago at a family member’s wedding (MaryLou’s wedding, obviously) there was quite a party! So much so that MaryLou took off her shoes and guests poured beer into them…and drank the beer from the shoes. This tradition has continued! They do use new, unworn shoes now. LOL.
And we finished up the night taking a stroll up Mathewson Street for their night photo!
Rick and Derek, thank you so much for trusting me with documenting your wedding day! I appreciate you! And thank you for roaming around the city in the rain, and sharing all of your stories, and for being beautiful humans! I had so much fun with you at your Hotel Providence fall wedding, and I hope you are enjoying your mini-moon!
